Ancient Camel-Powered Carts

July 01, 2009

Recently in Turkmenistan, archaeologists have discovered 6,000-year-old models of two-wheeled carts that lead scientists to conclude that some of the world’s first farmers used camels and bulls to tow their carts. The objects found at the Chalcolithic and Bronze Age site may have been toys or ritual objects. These items allow archaeologists to study how wheeled transportation began in this region and its advancement.

 

Oldest Known Human Settlement in the Aegean Discovered on Limnos Island

Recent archaeological excavations have determined that the Greek island of Limnos is now home to the oldest known human settlement in the Aegean region. Evidence from the Ouriakos site, which is located in the Moudros municipality of the island, has led researchers to conclude that its residents once included hunters, food-collectors and fishermen from the 12th millennium B.C.

Scripture for the Eyes

The Museum of Biblical Art, New York

The Museum of Biblical Art in New York is temporarily home to the Scripture for the Eyes exhibit—the first main exhibition to depict the vital influence that Old and New Testament themes had on printed illustrations during the sixteenth century in the region of modern Netherlands.
