Tourism in East Jerusalem Up 28 Percent

Despite a flagging global economy and a drop in tourism worldwide, East Jerusalem has experienced a 28 percent growth in the number of visitors to historical sites so far in 2008. Gideon Shamir, the director general of the Company for the Development of East Jerusalem, reports that “More Israelis have rediscovered Jerusalem this year and they visit it more frequently than they used to do in the past.” Visitors from abroad have also increased in numbers, and are predicted to reach a record 2.8 million in 2008.

 

One of Two Mummified Fetuses May Be King Tut’s Daughter

The ongoing analysis of two female fetuses found buried in the tomb of Tutankhamun will most likely prove that at least one is the offspring of the “Boy Pharaoh.” Dr. Robert Connolly, a scientist at the University of Liverpool, has carried out serological analysis on the mummified remains of the two fetuses. Blood group data collected from the mummies of both King Tut and the larger fetus had determined that they could indeed be related.
